if you want to keep your tailgate...just weld it in...use strips of sheetmetal to fill in the gaps. i'm not sure how thick corey was talkin about but it doesnt have to be that thick. so all you really need to buy is a sheet of steel and a rollpan

when i installed my combo on my colorado
i used 1"x1" angle across mine! took about 3 hours total to do! still lacks some grinding on my welds and cleaning up but i got lazy haha
