If you want to keep your stock tailgate what are the steps that need to be performed to make this project work?

it really depends on the truck, mine for example. im completely shaving the rear. you need taillight fillers, welder, some pretty thick sheet metal, kitty hair, bondo, sand paper and alot of time. o and a roll pan. on my truck i have a slight curve around the whole thing so it is wise to follow that curve and not square the tailgate off. im just going to weld some brace/supports on my tailgate to keep the curve. if i wasent getting rid of the blazer i could have used the skin off of it in stead of all the hassel. but fuck it. essays arent my strong point. someone please elaborate on what i wrote.....

From under the top bodyline( which will be shaved also) to above the bottom body curve is where the sheet metal and braces come in play. it is ALOT of work, and is not for the beginer.

My buddy shaved his tailgate closed using welding rods. He broke everything off till it was just a steel rod and then tacked them all in place. Was done years ago and still holding up.

The welding rods were used in the gaps between tailgate and the rollpan.

It's this truck. Still needs work. But has potential. We literally had to get the bed out of grass taller than us and the truck was tore to pieces and all hacked up with nothing usable left on the rear. The front was still stock. Soooooo much work has went into this truck in the past 5 months its unreal. Looks totally different now than it did. Not to bad for two guys in the back yard without a shop and very little experience and money lol.

The tailgate was welded up about 4 or 5 years ago from a buddy. Then he parked it. Grass grew taller than the truck. Someone wanted to rebuild it. They hacked it up and then put it back out to die again. Relaxin was the first time the truck had been drove other than my buddys yard for this first time since 06.
